Political activist and businessman Baboucarr “Bob” Keita has made explosive claims regarding a recent alleged conversation he had with President Adama Barrow. According to Keita, the President allegedly threatened Keita with a thinly veiled threat and criticised Senegalese Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko for opposing a third term as president.
Soon after being released from custody, Keita, a prominent member of the GALA movement, shared the accusations on Facebook. He claimed that an interview in which Keita made the case that the president shouldn’t run for a third term in power infuriated President Barrow.
“You want to be like Ousmane Sonko of Senegal—that’s why he will never be president, because he is rude and arrogant,” Keita claims the president stated. And I’ll put you in jail if you’re not careful.
If verified, the remarks might cause diplomatic pauses and exacerbate political tensions at home, particularly among activists who support term limits and democratic principles. The president has not yet publicly addressed the accusations.
