GAMBIA: BAC Chairman Calls for Immediate Release of Borry Touray

    Share

Brikama Area Council (BAC) Chairman Yankuba Darboe has strongly condemned the refusal to grant bail to Borry S. Touray, the Deputy Administrative Secretary for Legal and Human Rights Matters of the United Democratic Party (UDP), calling it a “blatant abuse of police powers.”

In a statement posted on his official Facebook page, Darboe urged supporters to gather at Police Headquarters in Banjul on Friday to advocate for Touray’s release. “To deny Senior Counsel Borry Touray bail and detain him for the frivolous charges preferred against him is nothing more than a blatant abuse of police powers, which we must condemn and oppose at all costs!!!” Darboe wrote.

He expressed strong opposition to what he sees as political intimidation, stating, “No to police brutality, and NO to Barrow’s third term!”

Touray, facing charges of incitement to violence, is currently in custody as his legal team prepares for a bail hearing.
