The Gambia Police have detained Saidou Bayo and Musa Kanteh, who provided bail to former NPP supporter Mbemba Drammeh, after Mbemba allegedly left to France.
In an interview with Kerr Fatou last month, Mbemba Drammeh made a number of accusations against the ruling NPP, which led to his detention.
Saidou Bayo explained the issue by saying: “Yahya Drammeh, his grandfather, is a good friend of mine. I accompanied him and Musa Kanteh to Mbemba’s bail hearing. Yahya requested me to use my ID since his had expired and they needed it to process the bail. As part of the terms of his bail, Mbemba was required to report to the Kairaba Police Station every day for 14 days. He was moved to the Kanifing Police Station on the fifteenth day.
Last Thursday, we went there with him. The police ordered Mbemba to return on Friday, despite his request for two days to travel to Basse. He failed to appear. We were unaware of his whereabouts when the cops questioned us. We were instructed to return on Monday. We were driven to Banjul on Monday, and Mbemba called me to let me know he was in France.
“I can confirm they were arrested by the police after Mbemba Drammeh left the country,” the police spokesperson told Kerr Fatou in response to the arrests. They are with the police right now.
