Yesterday, the National Assembly approved the appointment of seven members to the Victims Reparations Commission.
The approval followed the presentation of the report by the Public Appointment Standing Committee at the parliament.
The PAS committee was assigned the responsibility of reviewing and selecting seven members from a pool of nine for the role of commissioners on the Victims Reparations Commission.
The chairperson of the committee, Hon. Sulayman Jammeh, Member for Bundung-Ka Kunda constituency, presented the report.
Presenting the report, he remarked: “In selecting the qualified members for the Commission, the Committee conducted a comprehensive evaluation based on the Report of the Selection Panel, the Victims Reparations Act 2024, and the curriculum vitae of the prospective candidates.”
He stated that in line with the Victims Reparations Act and after reviewing the report from the Selection Panel, the committee has approved the appointment of Dr. Badara Loum as Chairperson, along with Ms. Isatou Ndow as Vice Chairperson and a representative of Victims, Ms. Isatou Jammeh as Commissioner and a representative of the disability organisation, Mr. Abdou Manneh as Commissioner and a youth representative, Ms. Saffiatou Touray as Commissioner and a youth representative, Dr. Babanding Da
He stated that in the process of considering and selecting a member for the Victims Reparations Commission, one of whom must be differently abled and represent a disability organisation, the committee has appointed Isatou Ndow.
Isatou Ndow serves as the Vice Principal of the Gambia College, although she is currently on contract. Hon. Jammeh justified, “She has experience dating back to 1985, when she began voluntary work for the Gambia Association of the Physically Disabled.”
He added: “She held the position of treasurer of the association for over ten years, acted as chairperson of the Education and Welfare Committee dedicated to supporting disabled students, coordinated the disabled women’s committee and project, and was a member of the Disabled Federation.” She has managed extensive policy development, implementation, planning, and curriculum development.
