President Adama Barrow on Monday engaged in high level talks with Nigerian business magnate, Alhaji Aliko Dangote at the State House in Banjul where it was agreed that The Gambia will benefit from two major infrastructure projects.

The meeting was held on the sidelines of the ongoing 2026 African Caucus Meetings hosted by The Gambia. President Barrow met with Aliko Dangote, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Dangote Group.

The talks concluded with a historic pledge to make two strategic investments to bolster the country’s energy sector. The projects include the construction of a 250-megawatt solar power plant and the development of a modern fuel storage tank farm to enhance The Gambia’s fuel storage capacity and improve the security and reliability of petroleum supplies.

According to the Presidency, the planned investments are expected to support the country’s energy transition, improve electricity generation and reinforce energy security while creating new opportunities for economic growth.

The Barrow administration said the agreement reflects its continued commitment to promoting intra-African trade and investment by creating an enabling environment for credible investors to do business in The Gambia.

The government described the planned projects as an important step towards strengthening national infrastructure and deepening economic cooperation with leading African investors.
