Fertilizer for the 2025 rainy season will be sold at a discounted price of D1,100 per bag, according to the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, and Food Security.
The Ministry told the public, especially farmers, in a statement issued Thursday that 28,892 metric tons, or 577,800 bags, will be ready for distribution across the national territory.
“The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, and Food Security would like to notify the public, especially the farming community, that fertilizer is being sold for GMD 1,100 per bag this farming season.
“The Government of The Gambia is making a substantial contribution by subsidizing GMD 1,875 per bag to support farmers and increase agricultural productivity, which is what made this subsidized price possible,” the Ministry said.
In addition, the government strongly cautioned against the unlawful cross-border transportation of fertilizer, stressing that those who do so will be subject to severe legal repercussions.
Reiterating its dedication to helping farmers, the Ministry issued a warning: unless full payment is made right away, any agent who owes money to the National Food Security Processing and Marketing Corporation (formerly Gambia Groundnut Corporation) from past fertilizer sales will not be allowed to take part in this year’s distribution event.
“The Government of The Gambia remains committed to ensuring timely and affordable access to inputs for our hardworking farmers. An agent who is indebted to the National Food Security Processing and Marketing Corporation (formerly GGC) for fertilizer sales conducted last year will be disqualified from participating as an agent in the upcoming fertilizer distribution exercise unless full payment of all outstanding arrears is made immediately. In the meantime, new agents will be identified and engaged to ensure the timely and efficient sale of fertilizer to farmers,” the statement said.
