On 22 January 2026, the Gambia Immigration Department (GID) North Bank Regional Command held its second high-level community engagement in Jinack. The meeting was led by the Operations Commander, Chief Superintendent Pa Muhammed Phatty, together with the Regional Border Patrol Unit Coordinator, Deputy Superintendent of Immigration Pa Malick Gibba, and other officers.
The engagement focused on sensitising community members on irregular migration and other key immigration matters, while strengthening cooperation between the GID and the local community.
Speaking at the meeting, DSI Pa Malick Gibba commended the community for responding positively to the GID’s outreach. He emphasised that community collaboration is central to efforts to combat irregular migration and save young lives from the dangers of irregular sea journeys. He further noted that cooperation with communities enhances the GID’s ability to fulfil its mandate and contribute to national security.
Chief Superintendent Pa Muhammed Phatty highlighted the importance of compliance with immigration regulations, identifying alien registration as a critical area for community support. He stressed that adherence to immigration laws is essential to ensuring community and national security, and underscored the role of local authorities and law enforcement agencies as key partners in this effort.
In response, the Alkalo of Jinack, Mamadou Manneh, and the Chairman of the Village Development Committee (VDC), Amadou Manneh, expressed their commitment to working closely with the GID and other security agencies. Chairman Manneh revealed that the VDC has begun registering all aliens visiting the village, demonstrating the community’s resolve to comply with immigration regulations.
The meeting concluded with both parties reaffirming their commitment to continued collaboration to curb irregular migration and promote compliance with immigration laws.
