GAMBIA: Should Gambia Government Embrace the Rural Area Blueprint Created by Nianija Diaspora Association?

The residents of Nianija, along with the Gambian diaspora, have not awaited action from the government or their national assembly representative. Instead, the Nianija diaspora has created a comprehensive rural development blueprint capable of addressing not only the challenges of rice cultivation in Nianija but also various issues faced by rural areas in The Gambia.

In an interview with AG Radio, Mr. Bakary Bah, a Gambian residing in the UK, reveals how a now-deceased Gambian man inspired him and others to set up the Nianija Diaspora Association, aimed at supporting Nianija. Mr. Bah drew his inspiration from his father, Honourable Halifa Sallah, Abdoulie Jarra Cham, and Alagie Essa Jallow, commonly known as Ba Essa.

The Nianija Gambian diaspora has been raising funds to support various projects in Nianija for many years; yet, this effort is insufficient. Mr. Bakary Bah asserts that Honourable Amadou Camara and Honourable Seedy Njie, the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly are from Nianija, and they should enhance their support for the development of Nianija.
