GAMBIA: “If We Lose Barrow, We’ll Search for Him with a Torchlight” — Hamat Bah

Minister of Lands, Regional Government and Religious Affairs Hamat N.K. Bah has called on voters in the North Bank Region to support President Adama Barrow in the December 5 election, arguing that the region has witnessed significant development under the current administration.

Bah made the appeal on Thursday in Passy Chally during Barrow’s Meet the People Tour, where he urged residents to judge the president by his government’s record and the projects delivered since taking office.

Comparing the current administration with those of former presidents Dawda Kairaba Jawara and Yahya Jammeh, Bah claimed that only 40 villages in the North Bank Region gained access to electricity during their combined years in power.

Under Barrow, he said, electricity had been extended to 204 villages, with a new contract put out to tender to connect the remaining communities that still lack access.

Bah also pointed to investments in healthcare, education and agriculture, presenting them as evidence that the government had delivered on its commitments to the region.

“All the promises he made, he has fulfilled them,” Bah said. “Now it is left to you, and people forget easily.”

The minister, a prominent ally of Barrow, also accused opposition politicians of attempting to influence voters through cash handouts ahead of the election. He warned residents against allowing short-term financial incentives to determine their political choices.

He called on North Bank residents to turn out in large numbers and give Barrow what he described as a decisive electoral victory.

Emphasising the importance he attached to retaining the president in office, Bah said: “If we lose President Barrow, we will take the torchlight and search for him and wouldn’t find him.”

His remarks form part of the government’s wider effort to highlight its development record as the December presidential election approaches.
