Police file fresh charges against bonnet-ride accused at Kanifing Court after Banjul Granted Bail. Having failed to secure a remand order at the Banjul Magistrates’ Court, police wasted no time rushing Abdul Wahab Jobarteh before a second court at Kanifing on an entirely fresh set of charges.

Abdul Wahab Jobarteh, who was granted bail by Principal Magistrate Krubally at the Banjul Magistrates’ Court earlier in the day, and granted bail was rushed to Kanifing and presented before Magistrate A. Manneh at the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court on three new traffic-related charges distinct from the four counts he already faces in Banjul.

The fresh charges are Reckless and Dangerous Driving, Unlicensed Driving, and Careless Driving

Commissioner A. Manga arraigned and pressed three charges against him for the prosecution and argued against the granting of bail. Counsel A. Sillah, who earlier represented Abdul Wahab Jobarteh at the Banjul hearing, again appeared for the accused and applied for bail to be granted.

Magistrate A. Manneh of the Kanifing Magistrate’s Court granted Abdul Wahab Jobarteh bail on the fresh charges, but the ruling came too late in the day for the conditions to be fulfilled before the court closed.

With the bail terms unmet by the close of business, Abdul Wahab Jobarteh was transferred to Mile 2 Central Prison, where he will be held pending the fulfilment of his bail conditions.

The development means that despite succeeding twice in securing bail first before Principal Magistrate Krubally at the Banjul Magistrates’ Court and again before Magistrate A. Manneh at Kanifing, Abdul Wahab Jobarteh ends the day behind bars, his freedom hinging on whether his sureties can meet the bail requirements tomorrow
