The Coalition Taskforce Mediation Committee (CTMC) held its 5th strategic session on Saturday, 16 May 2026, at the Baobab Hotel in Kololi. The meeting, hosted by the Gambia Movement for Progress (GMP), brought together leaders of 16 opposition parties and political movements, as well as civil society organisations involved in the ongoing coalition talks.

In his opening remarks, CTMC Chairman Prof. Mballow noted the steady progress being made and urged all parties to reach a binding decision.

Prof. Mballow reminded the assembly of the CTMC’s role to serve as neutral mediators to ensure a fair and transparent process. He noted that a draft Code of Conduct had been developed to prevent insults and leaks intended to sabotage the talks, and was awaiting adoption.
“Our interest is to produce a candidate for Gambians who can win and govern The Gambia productively. I urge all parties to unite around that goal,” he said.

Hosting the meeting, Prof. Yaffa welcomed participants and urged all parties in the coalition talks to allow decent, issue-based debate and work toward positive outcomes.

CTMC Secretary Mr. Ebrima S. Bah presented the minutes of the 4th meeting, hosted by the APP Sobeyaa at Sarge’s Hotel in Senegambia. The minutes were adopted without amendment.

Key agenda items discussed included:

A briefing by the Chairman on the draft Code of Conduct.

Report on consultations with other coalition camps.

Presentation of the revised calendar of activities.

Input from consulting parties on the coalition framework.

Any Other Business.

Participants were then given the floor to debate the issues and provide feedback on the presentations.

The session was adjourned with agreement to adopt The Coalition Framework at the 6th strategic session which will be hosted by the People’s Alliance Party (PAP) on 23 May 2026 at the Baobab Hotel, beginning at 10:00 a.m. prompt, to continue discussions on coalition building.
