The Gambia Immigration Department(GID) wishes to inform Gambians, both at home and abroad, that the mobile biometric passport team deployed to Spain and Italy, in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Gambians Abroad through the Embassy of The Gambia in Spain, has successfully completed its mission and returns home today, 17th May 2026.
The enrolment exercise was conducted from 27th April to 13th May 2026, and a further three-day extension from the 14th to 16th May 2026, marking a twenty-day enrollment period. During the exercise, a cumulative total of 1,823 Gambian applicants were enrolled across all designated cities in Spain and Italy. With support from the Embassy, the three-day extension was granted to accommodate applicants who had already made payment but were unable to access the service during the initial phase in Spain, particularly Madrid.
The GID is pleased to confirm that the operations throughout the mission were conducted smoothly without any major hitches. However, challenges relating to crowd management were encountered, particularly due to the high volume of applicants who flocked to the enrolment centers in Madrid. Nonetheless, with the support of the Gambian Embassy in Spain, various honorary consuls, and members of Gambian associations, the team was able to effectively manage and overcome those challenges.
All administrative processes required for passport production were completed in the field, with due consideration of legislative procedures and processes. Upon completion of production in Banjul, the passports will be dispatched to the Gambian Embassy in Madrid and the Consulate General in Milan for onward delivery to the respective applicants.
The GID extends profound appreciation to the Government of The Gambia, particularly the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Gambians Abroad and the Ministry of Interior, for the trust and support rendered throughout this process. The Department acknowledges the Government’s commitment to prioritising the needs and welfare of Gambian migrants abroad, and reaffirms its continuous dedication to serving with professionalism, efficiency, and commitment, in pursuit of national development.
