Hon. Fabakary Tombong Jatta, Speaker of the National Assembly and leader of the Alliance for Patriotic Reorientation and Construction (APRC), has said that many within his party support continuing its partnership with President Adama Barrow’s National People’s Party (NPP). He also praised President Barrow for what he described as his role in maintaining peace and stability across the country.

Jatta made these remarks during a political gathering in Madina Sancha, in the Lower River Region, as part of the APRC’s ongoing nationwide tour. Addressing supporters, he stressed that peace and stability remain essential priorities for the party.

According to him, the alliance with the NPP was originally formed with the aim of preserving a calm and secure national environment. He suggested that such stability is important not only for development but also for reconciliation and unity, including the possibility of a peaceful return of former President Yahya Jammeh.

“At the time, we were thinking about the stability of the country, hoping that one day former President Yahya Jammeh could return peacefully,” he said.

Jatta explained that the current tour is intended to connect with party supporters across the country and gather their opinions on whether the APRC should maintain its alliance with the NPP ahead of the 2026 presidential election.

“This is why we are traveling and consulting people,” he noted. “From what we have heard so far, most APRC supporters are in favor of continuing the alliance with the NPP.”

He also took aim at the opposition United Democratic Party (UDP), referring to it indirectly by its party colour and calling for protection against it.

In defending President Barrow, Jatta argued that his leadership should not be judged solely on physical development projects. He emphasized that maintaining peace is just as important.

“President Barrow is not only about building roads,” he said. “He has ensured peace and stability, and that should never be underestimated.”
