The Upper River Region Command of The Gambia Police Force, represented by Regional Commissioner CP Yerro Mballow, on Saturday, April 18, 2026, participated in the Gambia Immigration Department (GID) awareness programme on irregular migration held in Fatoto.
The engagement, led by the URR Immigration Office, brought together key stakeholders, including security service chiefs, the Governor of URR Hon. Samba Bah, the Chairman of Basse Area Council Muhamadou Ceesay, community leaders, youth groups, and students.
The initiative aimed to raise awareness on the dangers of irregular migration, particularly among young people, while promoting lawful and safe migration pathways.
Speaking on behalf of the security services, CP Mballow highlighted the operational challenges in combating irregular migration and emphasized the importance of community involvement, parental guidance, and youth empowerment through education and skills development.
The programme featured contributions from youth representatives and returnees, who shared real-life experiences and cautioned against the risks associated with irregular migration. Security officials also outlined common tactics used by trafficking agents and stressed the need for sustained collaboration among stakeholders.
The event was further enriched by a drama presentation by students of Fatoto Senior Secondary School, highlighting the social and human cost of irregular migration.
The Gambia Police Force reaffirms its commitment to supporting national efforts in combating irregular migration through community engagement, inter-agency collaboration, and sustained public awareness.
