Following recent public remarks made by our CEO, Modou Turo Darboe, the Board of Directors and the leadership of the People’s Movement for National Unity (PMNU) held a productive consultative meeting to clarify the organisation’s direction.
The Board of Directors and the general membership of the People’s Movement for National Unity (PMNU) wish to issue a formal clarification regarding recent statements made by our CEO, Modou Turo Darboe.
During a group naming ceremony over the weekend in Tallinding, where Modou Turo Darboe was honoured as the “Father of the Tallinding Kafoos,” he publicly announced his intention to enter into politics this coming April. Which was a personal statement. The people movement is not an individual institution but an organisation.
Following a consultation meeting with the board and stakeholders, which included the full participation and agreement of Modou Turo Darboe. The PMNU wishesto state for the record that the announcement doesnot reflect the agenda, mission, or official position of the People’s Movement for National Unity, the remarks were personal in nature and do not represent the agenda of the Movement.
The PMNU wasfounded on the bedrock of absolute neutrality. Our primary objective is to bridge the divides within our society, free from the influence of any political affiliation or partisan bias.
“Our mission is to serve as a unifying umbrella for every Gambian. To maintain the trust of the people, we must remain a non-political entity dedicated solely to national cohesion.” The movement remains steadfast in its dedication to our founding slogan: One Gambia, One Nation, One People. In an era where social fragmentation can hinder progress, our work remains focused on the following.
Eradicating tribalism, promoting a national identity that transcends ethnic lines. Our mission is to unify the nation under the umbrella of “One Gambia, One Nation, One People”, ending division by fostering dialogue and peace among all sectors of society and promoting national unity, ensuring that the collective interest of the country always takes precedence over political ambitions.
The People’s Movement for National Unity will continue its work as a non-partisan organisation, ensuring that our platform remains a safe and inclusive space for all Gambians, regardless of their political leanings.
By maintaining a neutral stance, we ensure that the PMNU remains a credible and inclusive force for every citizen, regardless of their political choices. We thank our members and the public for their continued support in our fight against division.
Signed.
