in an exclusive interview on AG Radio, Saturday night, Dr. Jays Ceesay Krubally, chairperson of the APEX Initiative, detailed the APEX’s objectives.
APEX acts as a neutral intermediary among different political parties in the country. Its objective is to unite these parties to establish a coalition. This is in anticipation of the forthcoming elections on December 5th, 2026.
“Who is Dr. Jaye Ceesay Kubally?” AG Radio inquired.
“I possess a straightforward demeanor. Originally from Gambia, I moved to the United States nearly 30 years ago. I have been a medical doctor and healthcare professional for over 20 years. I studied at Navarro College. I then attended the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA), where I earned my bachelor’s and master’s degree in science. Later, I obtained a doctorate from Chatham University in Pittsburgh,” Dr. Ceesay Krubally replied.
“What are the objectives of the APEX Initiative?” AG Radio inquired,
“APEX’s objective is to bring Gambian politicians together. The goal is to form a robust coalition ahead of the 2026 presidential election. A change is necessary for the improvement of the lives of the people. APEX was established in April 2023 by independent and impartial Gambians who are not affiliated with any political party,” Dr. Ceesay Krubally replied.
“What does the acronym APEX represent?” AG Radio asked.
APEX was established in April 2023. The “A” represents April, while the “P” signifies project, which is how the name APEX was derived. Our goal was to choose a name that is straightforward, memorable, and easy to pronounce. The primary objective is to facilitate collaboration among politicians,” Dr. Ceesay Krubally replied.
“Who are the individuals involved in the APEX Initiative, and what are their names?” AG Radio asked.
“I recognize that the public seeks clarity on this matter. At this time, we prefer to withhold the identities and names of those involved with APEX. This is aside from myself and veteran journalist and former Minister for Information Demba Ali Jawo. Our intention is to direct the attention towards the politicians rather than our members. We will give a disclosure at an appropriate time in the future,” Dr. Ceesay Krubally replied.
“There are already many other political alliances existing in the country.” “What sets APEX apart from these alliances?” AG Radio asked.
“It would be challenging to articulate the factors that set APEX apart from others. It is essential for everyone to be aware of the current situation in the country. APEX and the various political alliances are united in their commitment to the nation. They all desire peace in Gambia,” Dr. Ceesay Krubally replied.
“Have all political parties been invited by APEX to join in the coalition that APEX is working to establish?” AG Radio asked.
“That is a significant question. Initially, we invited the parties that were established in 2023, following APEX’s founding, in alphabetical order based on their names. starting with APP Sobeyaa led by Mr. Essa Mbye Faal. Gambia For All (GFA) Mr. Bakary Bunja Dabo who serves as the secretary general and party leader. National Unity Party (NUP) Dr. Lamin J. Darbo, secretary general and party leader. Patriotic Progressive Alliance. Dr. Ousman Gajigo, leader of the party. Tabax Rewmi Movement, led by Mr. Ahmadou Kah. United Democratic Party (UDP) Mr. A.N.M. Ousainou Darboe. secretary general and leader of the Party. Unite Movement for Change Mr. Talib Ahmed Bensouda, co-founder and interim leader,” Dr. Ceesay Krubally replied.
According to Dr. Ceesay Krubally, The People’s Democratic Organisation for Independence and Socialism (PDOIS) is led by Halifa Sallah. The Gambia Democratic Congress (GDC) is led by Mama Kandeh. These two parties have not yet responded. However, she is hopeful that they will.
“Many Gambians would like to see Hon. Halifa Sallah and Hon. Ousainou Darboe engage in coalition discussions for the benefit of our country. What steps can APEX take to facilitate a meeting between these two gentlemen?” AG Radio inquired.
“I do not believe that Hon. Halifa Sallah and Hon. Ousainou Darboe are adversaries or harbor any animosity towards one another.” In 2016, when the call for national duty emerged to remove Jammeh in the elections, they united. I am optimistic that they will eventually come together,” Dr. Ceesay Krubally replied.
“Finally, would you like to run for office in the future? Do you aim to be Gambia’s president?” AG Radio asked.
“No while laughing, not at all. These are not part my my thoughts,” Dr. Ceesay Krubally replied.
“Is there anything else you would like to share with Gambians about APEX?” AG Radio askd.
“I urge all Gambians to embody respect and discipline in our political landscape, as we are united as one nation. I am thus urging all political parties to come together and join APEX. To effect change, we must unite for the good of the nation. I appreciate AG Radio for the excellent work you are doing. I also thank all the members of the APEX Initiative,” Dr. Ceesay Krubally concluded.
