At Rabat Stadium, Morocco and Comoros played their opening encounter of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. Despite a thrilling and intense first half, neither team was able to score.
After a foul in the Comoros penalty area in the ninth minute, the Atlas Lions were given a penalty. Morocco lost the chance to take an early lead when Soufiane Rahimi missed his attempt after taking the penalty.
The Moroccan defense was strengthened in the eighteenth minute when Jawad El Yamiq took Ghanem Saiss’ position due to injury. Morocco persisted in controlling possession, generating multiple opportunities and obtaining multiple free kicks, but the Comorian defense was strong and well-coordinated. The Comoros kept their ground and resisted the pressure, even though they created little opportunities.
The Moroccans appealed another penalty in the 42nd minute, but the referee determined there was no foul after consulting video assistant referees (VAR). Because of the extreme heat during the game, it was occasionally challenging to keep up the pace. Abdelkader Dia was given a yellow card during stoppage time for fouling Comorian goalie Yannick Pandor.
Morocco 0 Comoros concluded the first half in a goalless stalemate. Fans might expect more thrilling action and suspense in the second half.
