On Monday, the Association of Licensed Forex Bureaux (ALFOB) expressed its condemnation of the tragic stabbing of Isatou Fatty, an employee of Heewal Forex Bureau, an incident that has raised significant concern within Gambia’s foreign-exchange sector.
The association expressed its deep shock and sadness regarding the killing, offering heartfelt condolences to Ms. Fatty’s family, friends, and colleagues. “We extend our thoughts and prayers to them in this challenging moment,” the group expressed.
The incident that took place in Brusubi has raised alarm regarding the safety of forex bureau employees, especially following a comparable event reported recently at H M Forex Bureau in the Westfield area. ALFOB emphasized that the ongoing targeting of bureau employees highlights the necessity for immediate, coordinated efforts.
“This incident follows a similar occurrence reported some time ago in the
Westfield area (H M Forex Bureau), underscoring the urgent need for collective action to protect lives and ensure safety,” ALFOB stated.
The association committed to working alongside law enforcement agencies and industry stakeholders to enhance security protocols. The public was also encouraged to stay calm and assist investigators.
“We call on the public to remain calm, vigilant, and supportive of law enforcement efforts as investigations continue,” the statement added.
“Violence has no place in our society,” the statement said, adding a call for unity as authorities continue their inquiries. “May the soul of the departed rest in peace.”
