    GAMBIA: Ex-Auditor General Modou Ceesay Lawsuit Against Minister of Justice, IGP, and Cherno Amadou Sowe

    Five Panel of Judges of the Supreme Court hears first Motion in alleged forceful removal of Ex-Auditor General Modou Ceesay Against Minister of Justice, IGP, and Cherno Amadou Sowe.

    Former Auditor General Modou Ceesay made his first appearance before the Supreme Court today for the initial hearing of his lawsuit challenging his alleged forceful removal from office. He was accompanied by friends and family members.

    Chief Justice Hassan B. Jallow has informed the court that Civil Society Joined as Amicus Curiae.

    Four civil society organizations have applied to join the proceedings as amicus curiae, or “friends of the court.” An amicus curiae is an individual or organization not directly a party to the case, but who offers relevant information or a unique perspective to aid the court in its decision-making through an amicus brief.

    The five-judge panel of the Supreme Court, presided over by Chief Justice Hassan B. Jallow, has issued an order requiring the four civil society groups and their legal representatives to appear on Tuesday, December 9, 2025. The order mandates their presence to formally move their amicus brief before the court.

    During the proceedings Counsel Lamin J. Darboe, representing the plaintiff, Modou Ceesay, and Senior Lawyer Ida Drammeh, representing the State both made submissions.
