Today, Thursday, October 9, 2025, the Brikama Magistrate Court will begin a coroner’s inquest into the contentious death of Mandinari Village resident Omar Badjie.

Chief Justice Hassan B. Jallow has ordered the inquiry, and Principal Magistrate Anna O. Mendy, who has been officially designated as the coroner for the proceedings, will preside over it.

The circumstances of Badjie’s death have been the subject of various reports, which has caused his death to garner a lot of public interest. On September 26, 2025, he was declared dead following what was reportedly a run-in with the law.

An eyewitness claims that Omar Badjie passed away while being held by the police. Police officials, however, have denied any misconduct, arguing that he was declared dead at the hospital after falling during a heated pursuit.

The Brikama Magistrate Court will hold an inquest tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. with the goal of establishing the incident’s facts and identifying the precise cause of death.

Principal Magistrate Mendy notified the late Omar Badjie’s family of the start of the proceedings in an official notification dated October 6, 2025. Additionally, copies of the notification were sent to the Brikama Magistrate Court’s Registrar, Chief Justice, and Judicial Secretary.

The court has appealed to everyone with knowledge of the incident to come to the inquest and help the court with its investigation, urging complete cooperation from everyone with pertinent information regarding the case.
