The Anti-Crime Unit has successfully prosecuted a series of cases before Magistrate T. Touray at the Kanifing Magistrate’s Court, leading to the conviction of 18 individuals.
CASE 1: Conviction for Common Nuisance, Affray, and Assault
Seven youths from Kololi Taban were convicted after pleading guilty.
a. Assaulting a Police Officer:
Muhammad Gassama was sentenced to 3 years’ imprisonment and ordered to pay D25,800 compensation to the Officer or serve an additional 1 year in default.
b. Affray:
Alieu Leigh, Modou Sinyang, and Dodou Nyang were each sentenced to 6 months’ imprisonment.
c. Common Nuisance:
All seven accused were sentenced to 1 year mandatory imprisonment.
In addition, each convict was fined D20,000 payable to the State, or face 1 year in default.
CASE 2: Eleven Convicted for Common Nuisance
In a separate case, 11 individuals were convicted of common nuisance. Each was fined D10,000, or in default, to serve 6 months’ imprisonment.
The 8th accused pleaded not guilty, and the case was adjourned to October 9, 2025, for the testimony of a police witness.
CASE 3: Escape from Lawful Custody
Musa Badjan was convicted of escaping from lawful custody. He was fined D3,000, or in default, to serve 2 years’ imprisonment.
