Abdoulie Sanyang, a Gambian national and former soldier residing in Switzerland, was arrested on Sunday at Banjul International Airport due to remarks he made in a radio interview, which officials claim have “significant national security implications.”
The Ministry of Information released a statement confirming that Sanyang’s arrest was connected to comments he made during the popular program Coffee Time with Peter Gomez, which aired on West Coast Radio on Thursday, 14 August 2025.“Mr. Sanyang is presently held at the Brusubi Criminal Investigation Department (CID) while investigations are ongoing,” the release stated.
The government highlighted the gravity of Sanyang’s statements; however, the press release failed to detail the specific comments that led to his arrest.
