With effect from Wednesday, August 6, 2025, President Adama Barrow has reorganized the Gambia’s foreign service and fired the director of the Gambia Maritime Administration.
President Barrow designated Olimatou Danso as the new Director of the Gambia Maritime Administration and removed Karamo Janneh of his responsibilities in accordance with the Gambia Maritime Administration Act of 2006.
The president also re-deployed Ambassador Foday Malang from his position in Qatar to the position of Ambassador of The Gambia to the Kingdom of Morocco, which had an impact on the diplomatic corps. At the same time, Omar Jah, the ambassador of The Gambia to the State of Qatar, was transferred from his prior post in Morocco.
A government statement claims that these adjustments are a part of larger initiatives to improve bilateral ties with important partner nations and bolster The Gambia’s diplomatic presence.
