Reiterating his government’s commitment to maintaining law and order across The Gambia, President Adama Barrow has issued a warning that any attempt to destabilise the nation, regardless of motivation or affiliation, will be confronted with the full force of the law.

President Barrow stressed in his Eid speech that his administration’s constitutional responsibility to protect life and property remains intact. Additionally, he reiterated that his government’s governance approach will continue to be guided by accountability and transparency.

“My administration will continue to be considerate of and responsive to your goals and concerns. I promise that our governance strategy will remain centred on accountability and openness. Therefore, in our battle against corruption, no one will be given preferential treatment or an exemption, and due procedure will be followed wherever misconduct is shown,” Barrow stated.

“Let me also reiterate that my government will uphold law and order throughout the Gambia in order to fulfil its constitutional mandate to protect life and property,” he continued. The whole power of the law will be applied to any person or organisation that intends to destabilise the nation under whatever excuse. We cannot support any covert plan to jeopardise the security and peace that we have all fought so hard to establish.

The president also exhorted the populace to respect the democratic institutions that form the cornerstone of the nation’s government structure and to enforce the rule of law.

“National progress depends on the independence and efficacy of our national institutions, which are the cornerstones of our democratic governance,” he said.

President Barrow proceeded by thanking the Gambians for their unwavering dedication to peace and stability, which he acknowledged was essential to the country’s recent progress.

“Your calm demeanour has enhanced the work of my government and produced an atmosphere that supports the significant and long-term development projects underway throughout the Gambia. Peace is something we should never take for granted. Many countries yearn for the stability and peace that we currently have because without it, development deteriorates and advancement is impeded. We must never forget that our shared dedication to peaceful coexistence is the direct cause of the nation’s impressive progress, he said.
