A source within the investigating committee said that more than six witnesses have been identified and called to testify at public hearings regarding the sale of former president Jammeh’s assets in the National Assembly inquiry.

A committee consisting of seven members has been assigned to investigate the issue within a timeframe of 120 days. Yesterday, a reliable source informed that  the committee is diligently working to ensure that public hearings begin in the first week of July.

A source has indicated that summons letters have already been issued to several identified witnesses.  The identified witnesses are former Attorney General and Minister of Justice Abubacarr Tambadou, former Sheriff of the High Court Sheriff Tabally, and former Janneh Commission executive secretary Alhaji Mamadi Kurang, who has already confirmed his summons in a social media post.

The committee is assigned to investigate the list of assets identified by the Janneh Commission and ascertain which assets were sold, transferred, or otherwise disposed of, as well as the legal and administrative processes employed in the transactions and the authority under which they occurred. The analysis will also focus on the valuation, pricing, and procurement methods employed to ascertain asset value, as well as identifying and profiling the purchasers of the assets to evaluate if appropriate procedures were adhered to. Additionally, the committee will assess the management and accounting of proceeds generated from the assets and ascertain whether funds were appropriately deposited in public accounts. The authority will possess the ability to advise the IGP to initiate investigations into any individuals or entities when discrepancies related to criminal or fraudulent transactions are identified during the inquiry.
